This series is about the medias portrayal of the female body and the corresponding signifiers associated with femininity. The figurative portion of these paintings were drawn from Victoria Secret catalogs and modified by combining childlike doll faces to recreate an amplified version of objectification. The intent is to illuminate how the female body is used to show men and women what femininity looks and behaves like. The doll signifies the early age in which girls are conditioned and groomed by societal messages to be physically perfect, fragile, passive, and how value is assigned to not only physical perfection but also passivity and submissiveness. These were painted early in my development and I want to revisit and rework these at some point. Even though I liked the original concept these never felt finished to me.
